Cebu: Things of interest

Expecting that I wouldn't have the time or chance to do real sightseeing in Cebu, I just went around the block looking for items of interest. I found three things of the same theme - COINS!

1. Coin-operated PC's: 1 Peso=3 minutes (boot time not included)
Kids were more than eager to show me how the thing worked. What really impressed me was not the many games installed, or the sheer novelty of the thing, but that the boot time was less than 5 minutes! XP over Vista anytime!

2. Coin-operated juice dispenser: 1 Peso=4 oz. orange juice
a> get plastic container from mug
b> place plastic under faucet
c> insert coin
d> enjoy juice drink!

3. Coin gambling | requirements: no paper bills allowed, no males, no females under 50, no funny poses for pictures

That's it. Aside from the small jeepneys, Cebu isn't too bad. I would even go so far as saying its people are waaay nicer than those in Manila. Taxi drivers give exact change and their meters aren't hacked mods and food is way way way cheaper than in Manila. Maybe next time I'll get to do some sightseeing. Maybe.

Cebu: Day Two

I got really blown away by my neighbors. A group of kids who knew every single Green Day song from Dookie to American Idiot. They were loud and noisy, but I couldn't resist smiling at the irony that they had better diction at singing the songs than speaking tagalog; and that they knew every riff, every chord and they played really good guitar overall. Every kid knew how to play the guitar, mostly from 10 years old to 15. This is my kind of neighborhood.

When I asked them what they listened to bands other than Green Day, they couldn't answer. They said "Green Day lang eh." So I said, so dyou guys like Paramore, Kenotia, etc..

They said, "hindi no, emo yun eh."

And there's the 50-peso slab of sweetly grilled blue marlin

And of course, the one-way eskinita.

Cebu: Day One

Cebu isn't too bad. Just don't go looking for anything else other than the likes of Manila. I just want to advise everybody that being late for a flight isn't the nicest experience. Like, being in the last row with no windows....

Hopefully I'll get better pictures tomorrow. I've heard about the one-way pedestrian street [eskinita] and some really interesting food. I guess I didn't come here for a vacation...
